A Story of Triumph: From Homelessness to Employment

One of the most inspiring stories to come out of our partnership with Eastside Lansing Food Co-op involves a trainee who faced incredible odds. When he first joined the program, he was homeless and struggling to find a way forward. Through the dedicated support and comprehensive training provided by the Co-op, he gained valuable skills and slowly rebuilt his life. His hard work and determination paid off, and today, he proudly resides in his own apartment.

The visit concluded on a high note when the program director of Eastside Lansing Food Co-op offered a housekeeping position to another participant who was nearing the end of their durational limit. This opportunity not only provides a stable income but also affirms the participant’s value and hard work throughout the program.

The SCSEP program, in collaboration with partners like Eastside Lansing Food Co-op, continues to create pathways to empowerment for older adults. These success stories are a testament to the program’s positive impact, offering hope and opportunities to those who need them most.
